Start narrow and go deep rather than wide and thin. Four to six SKUs, chosen to cover the heat range, will tell you more in six weeks than twelve flavours spread one carton each.
Lead with the two that carry the category
Original and Carbonara do the heavy lifting in most new listings. Original is the flavour the brand is known for and the one customers come in asking for by name. Carbonara is the counterweight: noticeably milder, creamier, and the flavour that sells to customers who will not buy the Original at all.
Stocking only one of the two is the most common opening mistake. Original alone caps your customer base at people who already want extreme heat; Carbonara alone misses the demand that brings people to the shelf in the first place.
Then add a third register
Cheese is the usual third choice. It sits between the two on heat and appeals to younger buyers and families. Jjajang and Curry are reasonable alternatives if your customers already know Korean or Japanese flavours.
Only then reach for the extremes
2× Spicy and 3× Spicy move well, but they move to a narrower, more committed customer. They are an addition to a working range, not a foundation for one. A shelf that opens with only extreme-heat variants tends to sell slowly and then gets blamed on the category.
A sensible opening range

- Carbonara — the mild counterweight
- Cheese — the middle register
- 2× Spicy — for the enthusiast trade
Add cups only if you have the customer for them: convenience sites, transport hubs, office districts, or anywhere people eat on the spot. In a grocery setting where customers cook at home, packets will out-sell cups by a wide margin.
What it costs to test
Our minimum order is one pallet, and flavours can be mixed within it — so a four-SKU opening range does not mean four separate pallet commitments. That is deliberate: it lets you read real demand in your own location before you commit to depth on any one flavour.
