How many packs are in a Buldak carton?

By Amornphan Food

Most Samyang Buldak packet cartons hold 40 units, bundled as 5 packs × 8 bundles. Cups and bowls differ, and a few flavours ship in different configurations. Below is how the maths works, why the numbers vary, and how to turn a carton count into shelf facings.

The short answer

For standard Buldak packet ramen, a carton contains 40 individual packets. These are not loose: they arrive as 8 bundles of 5 packets, shrink-wrapped, which is the same 5-pack multipack sold at retail. That means one carton can be sold either as 40 single packets or as 8 retail multipacks, without opening anything beyond the outer case.

Cup and bowl formats are packed differently — typically 30 cups or 16 big bowls per case — because the packaging is rigid and the cube per unit is much higher.

Why the bundle matters

The 5-pack bundle is a sellable retail unit in its own right. A convenience store that lists Buldak as singles and a grocer that lists it as a multipack can both be served from the same carton — which is why a single case is often enough to test two different price points in one store.

Why configurations differ

  • Pack format. Flexible pouches compress and stack efficiently; rigid cups and bowls do not, so fewer fit in a comparable outer case.
  • Net weight. Heavier variants sometimes ship in smaller counts to keep case weight within manual-handling limits.
  • Market of origin. Product manufactured for different export markets can carry different bundling. Always check the printed configuration on the carton you are actually being quoted.

If a supplier quotes you a “case” without stating the units inside it, the quote is not comparable to anyone else’s.

Converting cartons into shelf facings

A practical rule for a packet SKU: one carton of 40 gives you roughly 8 retail multipack facings, or 40 single-packet facings across a deeper shelf. For a first listing in a small store, working across four flavours is usually enough to run a four-to-six week read on demand before committing to depth.

Work backwards from your own sell-through rather than from the case size. If a flavour sells 12 packets a week, a 40-unit carton is roughly three weeks of cover — which sets your reorder cycle, and tells you whether a mixed pallet or single-SKU depth makes more sense.

Checking before you order

Case configuration is confirmed in writing on every quotation we send, because it is the figure most likely to change between production runs. Our minimum order is one pallet, and you can mix flavours and formats within that pallet.

Figures above describe the standard configurations we see most often. Exact units per case, gross weight and carton dimensions for the SKUs you are buying are confirmed on your quotation.
